Rationale:
Across the nation communities are facing a teacher shortage. The course Teaching and Training as a Profession is intended to give experience to high school students who are considering a profession in education, either early childhood, elementary, or middle/high school, or a profession as a trainer

Analysis	TTP 1.1 Analyze theories of development and learning to guide instruction and training. For example: Write a research paper which compares and contrasts the major existing theories of child development. i.e. Skinner, Piaget, Erikson, Gardner, etc. Use a web-quest to explore child development theories. Prepare and present a PowerPoint presentation about one of the theorists. Observe classrooms for evidence of development theories in practice.
Application	TTP 1.2 Compare and contrast instructional models/ strategies. For example: Define curriculum, instructional models and instructional, strategies. Research curriculum and instructional models in education and training and create a Venn diagram. Utilize one of the curriculum models to develop an activity for an educationa and/or training setting. Observe and summarize a teacher or trainer delivering a lesson/workshop and document instructional models/strategies used.
Application	TTP 1.3 Examine educational and training settings to optimize learning environments. For example: Interview a librarian, day care provider, or preschool teacher about their dream wishes for equipment and furniture needs. Visit an existing facility and critique the layout. Create a floor plan for use at a library, preschool, or daycare center Research different settings for training events. Review the setting of online course delivery software. Interview someone who has taken, taught or designed an online course. Research school philosophies. Compare and contrast alternatives in school scheduling.
Application	TTP 1.4 Analyze the impact of school, parent and community interaction in the educational process. For example: Interview administrators and parents about the need for involvement. Prepare a presentation for adults that provides reasons for community/school involvement. Attend and reflect on school planning meetings in which parents and community members participate. Develop public relations materials to inform parents and community of education happenings. Compare and contrast school websites. Observe how teachers and adminstrators communicate with parents. Identify skills needed to communicate effectively in a professional manner with parents or stakeholders.
	TTP 1.5 Assess the qualities and of personal and professional behavior. //For example: Review the South Dakota Code of Ethics for educators / trainers.. Intereview administrators for expectation of acceptable behavior and dress.. Review staff handbook for expecatations of acepptable behavior and dress.. Research newspaper articles for examples of inappropriate professional behavior. Invite a guest speaker to address appropriate personal and professional use of technology..
Indicator #2 Demonstrate integration of curriculum and instruction to meet developmental needs of individuals.
Analysis	TTP 2.1 Analyze the developmental needs of learners to select appropriate curriculum and instruction. For example: // Research the influences of social/ emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development on an individual and report through class discussion. Observe a class or training session and create a chart that classifies the development needs of the learners. Research differentiated instruction to adapt activities for developmentally delayed or disabled students. Create an advertisement that shows how all aspects of development are integrated in a person's learning. TTP 2.2 Utilize content standards to develop an educational or training plan. For example: - Interview work site supervisors or teachers for different approaches to curriculum planning. - Explore the role of assessment in curriculum planning. - Develop an educational plan to teach a standard.
Application	TTP 2.3 Evaluate the components of a lesson plan to ensure strategies/activities address the standard(s). For example:* Develop and deliver lesson(s) following an age appropriate model. Adapt a lesson for a student that is on an Individual Education Plan. Observe a teacher delivering a lesson and write a critique. Observe a trainer delivering a workshop and write a critique. Develop a wiki that illustrates the components of a lesson plan
Evaluation	TTP 2.4 Assess the effectiveness of instructional practice. For example:* Create a PowerPoint presentation that summarizes the characteristics of effective practices. Develop a rubric to critique a learning activity developed by another student. Observe an instuctional activity and write a journal reflection assessing effectiveness .
